There are many rules in our life, which are generally accepted. There are also some standard principles of style, but unfortunately, some people don’t follow them or have no clue about how they work.
Whereas style is very important for every gentleman, it makes a first impression and can bring your business to another level. When people see you nicely dressed, they form a good opinion of you. As you now, men would rather do business with partners they like.
I am a fan of style, I love fashion and have quite rich experience in this area. Below you can see some general rules of style, which were personally adjusted by me.
Wear a bespoke suit properly
The most important thing in a suit is fit. I always prefer a bespoke suit, made to my measurements and specifications. A bespoke suit is like a second skin, it shows your body in the best way possible. If you are going to get your first custom-made suit, you should go for a classic and versatile one — dark-coloured and moderate in details. Take meticulous care of your suit and it will serve you for decades.
Look after your clothes
You should always look impeccable. Wrinkly clothing is absolutely unacceptable. Iron and hang your jackets and shirts right away to keep them looking good. Take proper care of the items you invested money in and they will stay in proper condition for long. Wash your clothes regularly, polish your shoes, establish a grooming regime. Every detail of your look is important.
Get expensive and high-quality shoes
Good shoes can last 15 years and more. Choose classic options: plain and dark oxfords, brogues or derby shoes. I prefer shoes of such British brands as Barker and Tricker`s. Shoes play a great role in every outfit and they are worth investment for sure.
Use accessories wisely
If you wear ties or pocket squares, they should be darker thank your jacket. If you use both of them, choose a good combination of shades, but never the same colour. Sunglasses, a hat or a scarf can also be a nice complement to your look, but try not to overload it.
Know Thyself
Stay true to yourself. Yes, there are some general rules of style, but each person has his own special features. You know better than anyone what colours you look good in and which clothing is perfect for your body type. Every person genuinely feels what suits his personality the most. Once you have learned all the rules, you will develop your own sense of style too.
Dress properly for the setting
Your outfit should always be appropriate for your environment: whether you are going to the office or a Friday cocktail party. It is embarrassing to look out of place, so dress properly and feel comfortable.
Choose versatile outer clothing
You should have at least one versatile outerwear item, which would be appropriate for a wide range of occasions. You can’t go wrong if you get a Trench coat or a Mac, it will keep you warm and make you look stylish. Purchase it in black, navy or beige colour and you can pair it with almost every outfit.
Buy a dinner suit
Your own dinner suit will fit much better than a hired one. Even though formal occasions might not happen very often, having a bespoke dinner suit makes more sense after some years. Opt for classic shirts

Also, sometimes I can buy Brook Brothers shirts or Ralph Lauren polo shirts, but here I have to make sure they fit well and show my body in the best way.
Spend money on glasses
You can’t skimp on the health of your eyes. Always buy good spectacles which will last for years. But also don’t forget that they should look stylish and match your face shape and hairstyle. Both frames and lenses should be expensive and of high-quality. If you follow all these rules, your glasses will become a perfect accessory in all ways.
Know how to break the rules
After you get to know all the rules of style, you will understand when it is acceptable to break them and when it’s not. But for now — just follow them and always practice until you become a real expert.
