Every gentleman should have at least one watch or a small collection of them. It is a classy accessory which will complement every gentleman’s style. A gorgeous watch, like a decent suit, makes a man instinctively feel more confident.
And it is true that you can tell a lot about a person when you see the watch he is wearing. Nowadays you don’t really need a watch to check the time, but to express your personality. Today I want to tell you more about the main watch styles every man should have and the watches I personally choose for every day and for special occasions.
I’m not a big fan of watches investment, I always try to invest into startups or Fintech companies which will surely make a better profit for me. Also I think specially if you are a young entrepreneur you should never spend more than £1000 on a watch.
My favorite watches
My favorite watch out of all is the latest Apple Watch series 5. You can have any Apple Watch for a very affordable price under £700. The design is very simple yet stylish, such watches look good with a vide range of different outfits. The other advantage is that Apple watches have many different functions, which are very useful in everyday life. For every watch I prefer 43mm or 44mm case.
For events and special occasions:
Tissot has a very rich history, which started back in 1853. Nowadays owned by Swatch groups, Tissot watches are very affordable and can boast of a great price/quality ratio.
Good choice for formal occasions, you can find a different decent option priced around £1000. Tag Heuer is an affordable luxury. Generally I prefer stainless steel watches of a blue shade.
4 styles of watches every gentleman should have
The dress watch
Gentlemen started to wear dress watches with formal attires in the beginning of the 20th century.
They have simple design but at the same time look sophisticated. They don’t feature any unnecessary details and functions. A case is done with quality materials and can be square, circular or rectangular. The band color should always match the color of your attire.
Such watches work good with business casual and formal outfits, but are absolutely inappropriate for casual style.
My choice here is Tissot Tradition Perpetual Calendar. It features gently curved case, brown leather strap, silver dial with calendar, sapphire crystal, 100m water resistance. The modern watch with a vintage look, famous for its precision and classic design.
The dive watch
Such watches are made from corrosion-resistant stainless steel or titanium and are famous for being water resistant. The bezel can show how long you are underwater, also a dive watch may display the date. The band is slightly longer than usual so you can wear diving equipment.
You can wear dive watches with any outfit, but not formal.
TAG Heuer Aquaracer Chronograph features polished stainless steel bracelet, 43 stainless steel case, 300m water resistance, a chronograph, a date window and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. All these characteristics make this dive watch the best choice for swimming, scuba-diving or a yachting day.
The pilot watch
Pilot watches are large, they show the date, the time and also have a chronograph. A band is usually longer and made of leather. Pilot watches have a large dial usually black and are illuminated and readable even in the darkness.
A pilot watch works good only with casual wear.
Tissot Chrono XL is my pilot watch choice. The watch of a high Swiss quality featuring the large 45mm case with a chronograph, blue dial, leather bracelet and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal will serve you for a long time. The best choice for any casual occasion.
The race watch
The history of race watches began back in the 1930s. Racing watches have a chronograph and a tachymeter and are of a medium to large size. They also have a stainless steel case and a leather or steel band. The dial is large and may have flashy colors.
Such watches are bright, so you can’t wear them with formal outfits, only with casual ones.
My choice here is Tag Heuer Formula 1 with a blue dial, stainless-steel 43mm case and steel band. Inspired by 2020 Aston Martin Red Bull Racing RB16 car, this watch has blue, red and yellow colors. The illumination makes it readable in all weather conditions.
Whether you are new to the world of watches or are an experienced collector, you can’t go wrong with purchasing a watch from any category mentioned above. Each of them has its own style and characteristics and you will undoubtedly find one to your taste.
