Have you ever wondered about the success of tech entrepreneurs? Today I would like to share the stories about their ideas that change the whole industry for the better.
Mark Zuckerberg
Zuckerberg is known for co-founding and leading Facebook as its chairman and chief executive officer. Originally launched to unite college campuses, the site expanded so fast and beyond colleges, reaching one billion users by 2012.
Mark was exceptionally talented since his early age he starts to write software in middle school. His father taught him Atari BASIC Programming, and later hired software developer David Newman to tutor him privately.
Today Mark also co-founded and is a board member of the solar sail spacecraft development project Breakthrough Starshot.
Bill Gates
Bill Gates, the co-founder and father of computer revolution behind Microsoft, also a founder of charity organization Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He founded his first company, Traf-o-Data, at age 15, founded Microsoft at age 20 and became a billionaire by age 31.
Jeff Bezos
In 1994, Jeff Bezos launched Amazon.com Inc as a simple online bookseller, but today, Amazon is a multi-platform e-commerce and technology giant that is in the business of everything from tablets, streaming movies and e-tailing.
Jack Ma
He is the co-founder and former executive chair of Alibaba Group, a multinational technology conglomerate. Ma is a strong proponent of an open and market-driven economy.
The funny fact about him is that he applied ten times to Harvard Business School (HBS) and got rejected. Ma applied for 30 different jobs and got rejected by all. "I went for a job with the police; they said, 'you're no good'", Ma told interviewer Charlie Rose. "I even went to KFC when it came to my city. Twenty-four people went for the job. Twenty-three were accepted. I was the only guy ..."
Ma build his success by creating websites for Chinese companies and then found Alibaba, a China-based business-to-business marketplace site in his apartment with a group of 18 friends.
Ma likes big scene, too! In 2017, he made his acting debut with his first kung fu short film Gong Shou Dao.
Sergey Brin and Larry Page
Sergey Brin and Larry Page are co-founders of Google Inc.
Page is the co-inventor of PageRank, a well-known search ranking algorithm for Google, which he wrote with Brin.Page received the Marconi Prize in 2004 with Brin.
Twenty years later after Google’s foundations, it became much more than a website in the world and the most-used search engine. It spans video content, mobile technology, education, digital libraries, and even self-driving cars.
Alphabet, Google's parent company, is worth $762.5 billion and employs some 89,000 people around the world.
Larry Ellison
Oracle Corp. (ORCL) founder Larry Ellison is famous for his extravagant lifestyle: he owns yachts and 98% of a Hawaiian island, but he is also a tremendous philanthropist.
Oracle became a successful database vendor to mid- and low-range systems, competing with Sybase and Microsoft SQL Server, which led to Ellison being listed by Forbes as one of the richest men in the world.
An interesting fact about him - after Ellison contracted pneumonia at the age of nine months, his mother gave him to her aunt and uncle for adoption. He did not meet his biological mother again until he was 48.
