Grow your YouTube channel with descriptions. Best practices.

One of the best ways to grow your YouTube channel is constantly upload original and engaging content and working on promotion strategy. One of the aspects I am going to talk about is descriptions and how do they rank you in top searches.

YouTube channel has huge potential for the business whether you sell online, have personal brand or advertise your services as a company. Apart of it, Google favors YouTube results for certain types of queries in the SERPs.

One of the best ways to promote your channel is to work properly on descriptions. Let’s analyze what you can do in order to achieve success!

1.Write searchable descriptions

Descriptions can convey valuable information that helps viewers find your videos in search results and understand what content they are going to watch. Correct descriptions with the right keywords can increase views and watch time because they help your video to appear in search results. I recommend avoiding irrelevant words in your description because it creates a poor viewing experience and may affect negatively your statistic.

2.Include keywords

  • Give an overview of your video using natural language – not just a stream of keywords.
  • Put the most important keywords towards the beginning of your description.
  • You can use Google Trends and Google Ads Keyword Planner to identify your keywords and their synonyms. Including these terms can help you to maximise traffic from search.

3.Mind 2 parts in description

The description field is very useful for helping viewers to find and decide if they'd like to watch your videos. You can think about the description as two parts – what viewers see before they click 'Show more' and what they see after.

What viewers will see first – main part, the most important. In second part uou can add other key information about your channel, metadata and even links to social networks or your website below that so that viewers can learn more.

4.Don’t be boring

The description field can only display text, but it doesn't have to be a boring experience. You can add interactive features that could help to increase views, highlight collaborations and grow your subscriber base. You can use time-stamps to help viewers skip to important parts of longer videos.

5.Measure effectiveness

Find out how your description looks on different pages and devices, along with how it performs in YouTube Analytics, to find out if it's attracting viewers. You can preview the description in YouTube search, on the video's watch page and on various mobile devices to make sure that the most important information is visible.

Otherwise you can check YouTube Analytics Traffic Sources to see which keywords people use to find your videos.

6.Do hashtags in your video's description help?

Actually yes. Some people do search by hashtags. You can use related hashtags in video descriptions to help viewers to find your video when they search for a specific hashtag. Hashtags in the video description are links that users can click on to go to that hashtag's search results page to see more videos on that subject.

Ensure that you only use hashtags related to your video.

YouTube can be a source for tremendous business exposure, YouTube video clips also have huge influence across the social networks and are great for your overall marketing strategy.
