Estonia is famous for their digital voting system, people are simply able to vote online using their digital ID card since 2015. This is very unique technological feature that prevents fraud and other manipulations in voting.
Blockchain technologies
As blockchain technologies have variety of advantages related to privacy and security, they are widely being used in many sectors, from supply chains to fighting injustice. It is highly resistant to any hacker attacks.
For example, Estonian citizens keep their personal information under this technology and with their consent this information can be used by public services organizations. Due to blockchain technology even government officials can’t access their personal data without their previous approval.
Governmental online services
Estonian online governmental services are considered to be one of the most comprehensive worldwide that make life of people easier. Estonia has built an efficient, secure and transparent ecosystem where 99% of governmental services are online. For example, when it comes to filling a tax return form it will take in average just 5 minutes whereas in other countries people are struggling with it hours or even days.
Health sector online data
With a patient consent a doctor can access its data and history within minutes which makes it easy to follow him wherever necessary. The government even have designed various digital solutions to help to stop the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
Data privacy. X-road system
It is important to mention that government started to invest heavily in technologies and internet networks in order to create liberal and technological advanced society. They also understood and respected data privacy and created a data management system based on cryptography algorithms back in 2011. This system allows to share data securely between public and private organizations. X road is a distributed technology that is highly resistant to any cyber-attacks.
New technologies, such us blockchain and AI algorithms have significantly evolved over decades. Digital revolution has given rise to a new liberal society in Estonia making the country an exceptional and inspirational example in worldwide arena.
